The Walden Athletic Complex, a new sports complex for the Grady High School athletes, overlooks Atlanta’s Freedom Parkway. The site is composed of a multi-purpose synthetic turf field, combined baseball/softball field, and a 4,000 sq. ft. multi-purpose building. At the heart of the complex is the pro-athlete-grade synthetic field for boys and girls lacrosse, football, soccer, and ultimate frisbee games. Designed to handle both daily practice and official games, the adjacent infield diamonds are designed to GHSA standards for baseball and softball. An efficiently sited multi-purpose fieldhouse provides space for concessions, male and female locker rooms, equipment storage, and offices for athletic operations/security.
After the project team prepared a careful ball trajectory analysis, custom-designed safety netting was added along the field perimeter with appropriate netting height for the varying sports. The netting and pole locations were designed to enhance security and not obstruct views of the city.
