| | Southface Energy Institute Atlanta, Georgia Civil engineering and landscape architecture services for a 7,000 sq. ft. LEED certified office building. The new Eco Office of the Southface Energy Institute, an Atlanta, Ga.-based organization focused on promoting sustainable development, was designed to be the region’s most prominent green building. Scope of work included design charettes, extensive schematic development, civil and landscape design. ICF wall systems offer improved energy performance and lower heating and cooling costs. Pervious concrete for sidewalks and similar hardscapes around the exterior of the building will improve stormwater drainage. The pervious concrete will also reduce heat storing capacity, creating a cooler surface, a particularly important asset in cities like Atlanta, where the urban heat island effect raises temperatures significantly. A concrete-based “green roof” will reduce stormwater runoff, provide additional insulation, and further help reduce the heat island effect. |
