E&A Spelman College Housing Project receives LEED Silver Certification!

E&A celebrates another project success in sustainable development at Atlanta historic Spelman College.  The 200,000 square foot, 303-bed project was completed in 2009 and has been named The Suites.  The Suites provides scenic views of historic West End, and active lawn and courtyard, a 175-seat dining hall, and energy-efficient rooms.  The facility also includes a 100-car parking deck with preferred parking for environmentally friendly, low-emitting, fuel-efficient vehicles along with covered bicycle storage.

Based on its many energy-efficient and eco-friendly features, The Suites is projected to receive a Silver LEED rating from the US Green Building Council.  The building was constructed and designed with increased water efficiency features, low-emitting materials such as adhesives, sealants, paints, and carpet.  The building includes recyclable collection and storage on-site, 20% of the building materials were manufactured locally, and 75% of construction waste was diverted from landfills.  Green housekeeping and site management is planned for the buildings day-to-day operations.
